Create a budget

Open the Budgets tab. With no budget yet you’ll see Create Budget; tap it.

  • Budget Name, for example “Monthly Budget”.
  • Period: Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly (the default), Quarterly or Yearly. Category amounts are per period, so a Weekly grocery amount of $120 means $120 a week.
  • Type: Personal, or Family if you’re in a family. Family budgets need Premium; see Family sharing.

Add a row for each category and give it an amount.

  • Income categories hold what you expect to earn in the period. Each shows Expected and Earned.
  • Expense categories hold your spending limit.

Each expense row has two switches: Rollover carries what’s left (or what you overspent) into the next period, and Count-Up turns the category into a daily allowance. Both are explained in Count-up budgeting and Rollover, transfers and ready to assign.

The sheet totals your Income, Expenses and what Remains as you type.

The menu at the top of the Budgets page has Edit Budget, New Budget, New Category Group, Reset All Rollovers and Delete Budget. Tap a category to edit it or for more actions.

A budget moves to its next period by itself. If you haven’t opened Buoy in a while, it catches up through every period you missed the next time the budget loads, applying each category’s rollover setting along the way.
